A pair of top-5 teams with Davey O’Brien Award semifinalists and national title aspirations meet up Saturday afternoon when top-ranked Mississippi State travels to No. 5 Alabama in the Davey O’Brien Award’s Marquee Matchup.
Dual-threat quarterbacks Dak Prescott of Mississippi State and Blake Sims of Alabama will lead their respective teams in the affair. Other semifinalist quarterbacks with high-profile games this week include Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett (vs. No. 25 Minnesota) and Auburn’s Nick Marshall (vs. No. 15 Georgia).
Throughout the season, the Davey O’Brien Award highlights the best weekly quarterback matchups as the race for the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award continues. The 16 semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on Monday, Nov. 24. The 2014 Davey O’Brien winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards airing Thursday, Dec. 11 on ESPN.

The junior has been responsible for a single season school-record 29 touchdowns (18 passing, 11 rushing) and leads the nation with four 100-yard rushing/200-yard passing games.
Blake Sims has completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,243 yards (249.2 per game) with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. The Alabama senior, in his first year as a starter, boasts a 159.98 quarterback efficiency rating that ranks sixth in the nation and first in the SEC. He also has 51 carries for 262 rushing yards and five scores.
