Waters and Trickett clash Thursday evening

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 20, 2014) – Davey O’Brien Award semifinalists Jake Waters (Kansas State) and Clint Trickett (West Virginia) will face off Thursday night in the Davey O’Brien Award’s Marquee Matchup for week 13 of the college football season. The Big 12 Conference game will be aired on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 6 p.m. (CT).

Other semifinalist quarterbacks with noteworthy games this week include UCLA’s Brett Hundley (vs. No. 19 USC) and Notre Dame’s Everett Golson (vs. No. 24 Louisville). In all, 15 of the 16 award semifinalists will be in action this weekend.

Throughout the season, the Davey O’Brien Award highlights the best weekly quarterback matchups as the race for the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award continues. The 16 semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on Tuesday evening. The 2014 Davey O’Brien winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards airing Thursday, Dec. 11 on ESPN.


Marquee Matchup #1: No. 12 Kansas State (Jake Waters) at West Virginia (Clint Trickett)

Thursday, November 20 at 6 p.m. (CT) on FOX Sports 1

Jake Waters is compiling one of the greatest seasons by a quarterback in Kansas State history. The senior has averaged 286.1 yards of total offense and completed 63.6 percent of his passes, both of which rank among the top two marks in school history. In addition, he currently leads the Big 12 Conference in passing efficiency (151.3).

West Virginia’s Clint Trickett ranks sixth in the nation in passing yards (3,173) and seventh in completion percentage (.683). The senior also is listed 18th in total offense at 308.2 yards per game. He has tossed 18 touchdown passes this season, including five that have traveled at least 40 yards.
