Statements on 44th Annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner

Statements from the Davey O’Brien Foundation

“The Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner has been a staple in the Fort Worth community every February for more than four decades. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Davey O’Brien Foundation Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person dinner in 2021.

“While this year we are unable to host the type of celebration we are all so proud of, we understand that the safety of the Fort Worth community is of paramount importance. In lieu of an in-person dinner, we are committed to honoring this year’s remarkable recipients, who will be named in the coming weeks, and highlighting our proud history virtually in February. Thank you for your continued support and please know we are excited to celebrate our considerable successes with you again as soon as we are able.”

– Paul Greenwell, President of the Davey O’Brien Foundation

“These times have been challenging for so many, and I am very proud that the events of the past year have only strengthened the Foundation’s commitment to providing scholarships to student-athletes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. These young people have continued to work so hard and persevere through the challenges presented both in school and in athletics. We are looking forward to honoring these special student-athletes again this year, and hope you’ll join us virtually in February as we recognize this year’s scholarship recipients.”

– David O’Brien Jr., Chairman of the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Committee
